The Gamer Log's Favorite Game of the Year

The Gamer Log’s Favorite Games of 2023!!!

This is a breakdown of personal favorites. It is representative of the personal taste of the Gamer Log, but everyone will have their own concept of value. This is not intended to be definitive. It should exist as a starting point for conversation about one of the greatest years of gaming in history, and a celebration of the gaming industry as a whole. Enjoy and please share your opinions on last year’s games as well.

Welcome to the Gamer Log’s Games of the Year!

What a year 2023 turned out to be. It was one like few have seen before in the gaming industry. The unprecedented volume of absolute classics was staggering. In my opinion, it stacks up with legendary years like 1997, 1998, 2007, 2013, or 2017. I haven’t been able to get through all the fantastic games of 2023, but since the year is done, I wanted to lay out some of the games that I thought were the best of the best of what I played over the past year. Some people may agree with my assessment, and some may not. I hope this creates food for thought and a platform for positive discussion. The Gamer Log values your thoughts and opinions, so feel free to add your perspective to the conversation below. With all that being said, and without further ado, here is the Gamer Log’s Games of the Year for 2023!

the Gamer Log’s favorite GAME OF THE YEAR

There were so many phenomenal games in 2023, and Spider-Man 2 was a great example. Every moment is fun. The web-swinging and traversal around New York City is so fun and engaging. I thoroughly enjoyed each mission, as well as all the side content. The main complaint with this game is that there isn’t more of it. Always leave people wanting more, I suppose. What a game, and what a year.

Some Quick Honorable Mentions Before We Go

There were so many great games that I genuinely enjoyed, but didn’t make any of these lists. That shouldn’t take away from the value they have. I should say, these games appear in no particular order.

  • Like A Dragon: Ishin!
  • Like A Dragon: Gaiden
  • A Short Hike
  • Jusant
  • Planet of Lana
  • Dordogne
  • Goodbye Volcano High
  • The Bookwalker: Thief of Tales
  • Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores

Games Stuck In The Backlog (but I really want to play)

Unfortunately, there is only so much time in a year. There were so many games that couldn’t make the list because I have not had the chance to play them yet, but they will certainly be on the docket when time allows. I don’t intend to imply that these games are any better or worse than anything listed above. I simply cannot speak to my personal opinion on them. Nonetheless, I felt the need to include them in some way.

  • Lies of P
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage
  • Dredge
  • Pikman 4
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Chants of Sennaar
  • Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
  • Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
  • Season: A Letter to the Future
  • Cocoon
  • Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
  • Dave the Diver
